Junk drawers accumulate little things rapidly!

Get them cleaned out, so you stay organized and productive.

First simply peeking into these type of drawers to remind yourself of what’s in there, then you can determine if it’s time to re-think, replace items to proper homes, or re-organize the drawer, then you can get it done fairly quickly.

Second, gather your junk drawers and dump the contents in one area.

Third, begin sorting:

  • His stuff.
  • Her stuff.
  • Child’s stuff.
  • Tools/screws.
  • Plumbing parts/electrical parts.
  • Office supplies.
  • Parts for items to repair.
  • Electronics.
  • Batteries.
  • Coins.
  • Hair bands, brushes.
  • Manicure/pedicure supplies.
  • Jewelry, watches.

And, you can keep adding to the categories list above for items you find in your personal junk drawers.

Fourth, once items are grouped. start tossing the obvious – like lost pen tops, candy wrappers, and items you don’t need.

Fifth, take items that already have a home to their proper place – for example, you may have a battery spot, hair band spot, tool spot, etc. If want to leave a few of these types of items in your junk drawer, then that’s up to you. I personally use my junk drawer to catch “junk” I need out of the way immediately, knowing I’ll get to cleaning it out when I have more time and patience to put things away properly.

Sixth, if you have something that would be better stored in the junk drawer, that isn’t junk, and instead something specific, then completely cleaning out multiple junk drawers and consolidating things will give you the opportunity to make the new storage spack you need.
